In a new interview, rocker Joan Jett discusses Kristen and her role as the famous rocker in ‘The Runaways’. I’ve included only the Kristen related parts below.
And the icon checklist doesn’t stop there. Not when they are making a movie based on your early career (The Runaways due in 2010 ) with one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood (Kristen Stewart) cast as you. And then, just to drive the point home, a Joan Jett Barbie Doll has been released this year in time for Christmas.
It’s a long way from the late ’70s when Jett first appeared on the punk scene with the Runaways, a band that while successful overseas, never gained more than a cult following in the U.S.
Still, Jett has embraced the film, which is based on lead singer Cherie Currie’s 1989 autobiography Neon Angels. Currie’s role is played by Dakota Fanning. As an executive producer, Jett has worked closely with Stewart to recreate, well, herself.
“It’s been pretty surreal,” she says. “First of all, she cut her hair and that certainly helped my vision of it. She wasn’t wearing a wig. She was actually living in the hair and I would hope that it helped her a little bit to embody it.”
“I thought that just in general our energy, the way we handle day-to-day things, plus our physical movements in space, were very similar. A lot of kind of fidgeting, a lot of playing with the hair — a lot of that stuff sort of came natural. But for a lot of the physical aspects, she watched me a lot, so it was surreal, but in a nice way. It wasn’t uncomfortable and it wasn’t creepy.”
Though Stewart’s portrayal of Jett has been gaining a lot of attention, Jett is quick to point out that the film is about the group, not her.
“I have to really stress that this is not a biopic,” Jett says. “It sort of goes over how the band started, but you can’t take each aspect as a fact. The way I look at it this movie is based on Cherie’s book and I see it as basically a parallel narrative … so I’m not ever going to able to judge it as a true Runaways story. Because that’s not really what this is. To me, it’s more of the story of two girls and how they deal with this event in their life called The Runaways.”

Summit Entertainment has announced The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be released in both conventional theaters and in IMAX on June 30, 2010. While the film was shot with regular cameras, IMAX is going to digitally re-master the movie with their proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology so it can be shown in IMAX theaters.
With the huge money The Twilight Saga has been making at theaters, it’s no surprise everyone wants it in IMAX. This way, theater owners can charge more for tickets and everyone involved can make more money. It’s just unfortunate that they didn’t film any of the movie using IMAX cameras. Of course, with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn still to be shot, perhaps the final chapter will be a real IMAX release.
SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT TO DISTRIBUTE THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE TO IMAX® THEATRES BEGINNING JUNE 30, 2010
Los Angeles, CA – December 9, 2009 – IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ: IMAX; TSX: IMX) and Summit Entertainment announced today that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film in the studio’s Twilight franchise, will be released to IMAX® theatres simultaneously with the film’s launch on June 30, 2010. Directed by David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT, HARD CANDY) and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie. The film franchise is based on the book series by Stephenie Meyer.
“Twilight moviegoers will have a whole new way to experience this next installment of the series, with the enhanced image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience putting them IN the movie,” said Richie Fay, Summit Entertainment’s President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution. “The IMAX release puts us on the event film calendar for 2010, and we’re very excited to work with IMAX to bring a new kind of film to the IMAX theatre network.”
“Our 2010 film slate continues to fill out with strong titles, and a film from this incredible franchise is a very welcome addition,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “This title fills a valuable spot in our 2010 summer release window, and will no doubt thrill IMAX audiences.”
“We’re very excited to work with our new partners at Summit Entertainment to transport the very loyal and enthusiastic Twilight fans into the world of the Volturi via The IMAX Experience,” added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “With our growing theatre network, we’re poised to take advantage of the rapidly growing fan-base devoted to this dynamic, cutting edge series.”
In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob – knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Lucky lady Anna Kendrick has had the opportunity to work with today’s hottest hunks Robert Pattinson and George Clooney. It’s only natural for a gal who has seen her fair share of hysteria surrounding these two heartthrobs to compare the intensity of female adoration.
The up and coming star told Reel Empire “From what I’ve seen they get different sides of it [attention]. Rob gets a lot of screaming and a lot of prying and a lot of really, really intense praise, which doesn’t necessarily feel good when it’s coming from this hysterical place. ”
Anna went on to say, “Then I see people come to George and because he’s so established, some people try [to] trick him into saying something. And that’s interesting to watch him sidestep that stuff so gracefully and never lose his cool. I don’t know how he does that.”
When asked who has more hysteria surrounding them, the answer was no surprise- Rob Pattinson!
“I’ve never seen anything like it. Yesterday, people were asking me [at the Up in the Air premiere with Clooney], ‘Could you believe how crazy this premiere is?’ and I was like, you ain’t seen nothing.”
The Rob-mania has even caused the young starlet to fear for our favorite vamp’s safety!
At Comic Con “We were in small theaters, and there were no barriers. I was just thinking, they’re feet away, and he’s standing right next to me. This kid is going to lose an eye right next to me.”
I’m not embarrassed to admit that should I see Rob Pattinson I will, without hesitation, start screaming hysterically. Sadly, I will morph into a twelve year old girl and will undoubtedly end up in jail on charges of disturbing the peace. I won’t be able to help it- he’s just so darn cute!
